Standards

Throughout my time at Minneapolis Public Schools, I have always strove to utilize the materials that are available to me to ensure that I am helping my students to learn and make progress towards the high school standards.

My first two years in the district I taught social studies. During these two years, I closely followed the Focused Instruction model that Minneapolis Public Schools developed with the help of teachers throughout the district. Following my first year in MPS I was part of the curriculum review committee that explored the Focused Instruction plans and state standards. We reviewed and rewrote the benchmark assessments for each lesson, as well as developed specialized benchmark assessments to help our English Learners and Special Education students.

The Social Studies the curriculum was online, and utilized iPads. This helped me to be able to engage students with technology, and to provide unique assessments that were customizable, and allowed me to find data in real time about student success and mastery. Additionally, I was able to customize lesson plans with with specific information provided from the text book and balance them with the MN state standards.
